Equine Assisted Learning Foundations Facilitator Course
This course ‘EAL Foundations Facilitator’ is designed to prepare facilitators to run a flexible Equine Assisted Learning sessions that considers the horse, and teaches social competence skills and mindfulness to children, teenagers and adults. The program focusses on connecting with the horse by practicing kind and compassionate horsemanship skills.
This course is not a mental health service, or equine therapy.
Equine Assisted Academy is an approved training provider with the International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT). Our students are eligible for membership with IICT and the additional professional benefits this provides, including insurance.
The course timeline is a 5-day immersion (38 hour face-to-face) and 4 hours online. Totalling 42 hours. After the course is completed a Certificate of Participation is awarded. Certification of EAL Practitioner is optional. In order to certify all of the assessment needs to be completed within 12 months of finishing the course.
Note: We have one-on-one facilitator training sessions available if the dates, or a group setting, doesn't suit you. Please contact us for more information.

IICT Membership

What are the steps I need to take to be certified?
Step 1
- Contact Equine Assisted Academy for their Student Application and Intake Form and send it back completed
- Pay the holding deposit, and a week before the course starts pay the full fee
Step 2
Complete the 5 days of in-person training, which includes:
- The Professional Competencies Evaluation
- The Self-assessment Horsemanship Skills test
- The EAA's Ethical agreement signing
Step 3
- Complete and pass the Open book exam 45 days after the 5 day in-person training
Step 4
- Obtain, or renew Working with Children check (Blue Card)
- Obtain, or renew First Aid Certificate and CPR
- Send your student letter to IICT to obtain student membership and insurance
Step 5
- Practice 10 Equine Assisted Learning sessions
- Complete and pass the 3 x Practical Assessments due 1 year after starting the course
Step 6
- Be certified as an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator through Equine Assisted Academy
- Send your certificate to IICT to become a Professional Member and the additional professional benefits this provides, including insurance.
Step 7
- Start working in your dream career as an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator
